I went into town with an SLR as I had got all the footage I needed/wanted for my video. I tried the notes that I found in Tony Ray-Jones' notebook, by getting closer to the subject. I also had to get close to the subject as the camera does not zoom and so the only option is to physically move closer the subject. I found it easier to take get closer to some of my subject for example a pigeon and a dog, but getting close to a person while holding a camera is not an easy task. I also decided on a theme, which I decided after editing the previous day and also after taking a picture or two. I decided my theme would be Moment, capturing moments, for example my photographs would have one subject often moving to show it is one moment that the camera is capturing.

After designing to concentrate my day on creating a video instead of using film, I got a DSLR, which I prefer to video cameras as you have more control over the focus and lighting. I walked around for a while getting shots of various things that were happening in Canterbury, luckily it was a pretty busy day so there was lots to film. But I found myself seeing people or things going past which I should have filmed and so I decided to sit/stand in one area and wait for interesting people to past. As I said Canterbury was quite busy and so I filmed until the memory stick in the camera was full. After, I put the videos on my memory stick and started developing the full video when I got home.

I created a blog

...

I undertook a creative writing task in a group, based on the exquisite corpse. One person would write a sentence, this time based on their experience on Tuesday, and they would pass it onto the next person with the next person continuing, but only seeing the last sentence. Although I don't like writing, creative or otherwise, I found the final story pretty funny.

We also had a tutorial in premiere, which I thought I was alright at, turns outs I couldn't get a lot of the stuff to work. Eventually I did get to work and once I figured it out I restarted the creation of  my video and it is now looking a lot easier.

We were introduced to the 35mm SLR's and the Medium format camera. I prefer the SLR cameras and will most likely use one for my film photography as you can take more photos which will be useful when photographing moving people. Also the medium format cameras have to be stabilized to take a good photo, for example put on a wall or on a part of the body like the knee. I want to be able to see something happening and able to take a picture of it in the moment.

We also explored what a flaneur was and what we say a flaneur as. To help this I created a mind map and came up with a number of words related to flaneurs and or being a flaneur.

Here are some of the words:

Observing
Study
People
Personality
Creeping
Taboo
Moving
Capturing Instances
Moments
Accidents

Also in my research at the Library I came across a book called "Only in England", with street photography by Tony Ray-Jones. The photos were very interesting, but a page that got my attention the most was a photocopied page of his notebook which read:

Be more Aggressive
Get more Involved
Take simpler pictures
stay with the subject matter (be patient)
No middle distance
See if everything in the background relates to the subject matter
Vary Compositions and more Angles
Be more aware of Composition
Don't take boring Pictures
Watch camera shake
Don't shoot too much
Not all eye level
Get in Closer

I will try to use these notes to help me with my photographs.
